Before COVID happened, more of us were getting more active, more often, with a slight increase year-on-year, with just over 62% were classed as active (150+ minutes per week).
COVID-19 has had an effect on all of us this year and our ability to be active.
Since March 2020 lockdown, there has been a drop of 7% of active adults, that represents 3 MILLION people are now doing less than the recommended level of exercise
Being active is proven to help build your immune system, which helps fight off illnesses and disease.
In the same Sport England survey, they found that:
Every £1 spent on community sport and physical activity generates nearly £4 for the English economy and society
£3.6bn worth of savings generated by the prevention of 900,000 cases of diabetes
£450m saved by preventing 30m additional GP visits
Only a 1/3rd of those aged 75+ were able to do exercise, and now over 50% are classed as inactive
Those with long term health issues have been affected dramatically, with activity levels ranging between only 50% (1 health issue) down to 33% (3+) being able to access services.
